CMS Category Filter Pills
This component creates dynamic filter chips that let visitors narrow down your CMS collection content in real-time. It automatically extracts filter values from a specific text layer inside your CMS cards, generates clickable filter buttons, and shows only the items that match the selected filters. The filter chips adapt their appearance based on state (default, hover, active), and you can choose between single or multi-select behavior.

Instructions
Copy the CMS Inline Filter component into your Framer project
In your CMS card design, name the text layer that contains your filter values (for example, if the layer contains "Design, Web, Branding", name it something like "Categories" or "Tags" in the layers panel)
Connect your CMS collection to the component by selecting it in the Collection property. Make sure the CMS is added in the page outside the canvas
Enter the exact name of your filter text layer in the Filter Layer Name property (this must match the layer name from step 2)
Customize the filtering behavior, layout, and styles: choose layout type (vertical/horizontal/grid), toggle Allow Multi Select for combining multiple filters, adjust spacing with Gap and Chip Gap, and customize chip appearance for default, hover, and active states
How it Works
The component works by reading text from a specific layer inside your CMS card design. First, ensure each CMS card has a text layer that contains your filter values (like "Design, Development" or "Client Work"). Give this layer a unique name in Framer's layers panel - this name is crucial. Then connect your CMS collection to the component and enter that exact layer name in the Filter Layer Name property control.
The component will scan all items, extract the unique values from that named layer, and create filter chips automatically. You can separate multiple values in the text layer using commas. Choose your layout style (vertical, horizontal, or grid), enable Allow Multi Select if you want visitors to combine filters, and customize the appearance of chips in their default, hover, and active states. You can also add a custom Empty State component to show when no items match the filters.
