Top Tools for Framer & Web Designers
Nabeel
Founder @ SegmentUI
As a designer, I'm always on the lookout for ways to streamline my process. Whether you're a seasoned pro or just starting out, this comprehensive guide will walk you through the must-have tools for Framer/web designers in 2024. Everything from content creation, scheduling and marketing.
Marketing
Buffer
You can get a lot more eyes on their work by using Buffer without extra effort. It's a tool that lets you post your stuff on different social media sites all at once, without having to jump between apps or different scheduling tools - this is what sets apart buffer from other tools.
The best part about Buffer is how easy it makes reusing your content. For example, say you've made a cool hero section - you can turn that into a quick video for Instagram, some tips for Twitter, and a longer post for LinkedIn, all from one place. This way, you're not constantly coming up with new stuff, but instead making the most of what you've already created. It's an easy multiplier on your reach. Also engaging with comments and seeing analytics all in one platform is super helpful.
SuperX
Theres a saying that the war is won before the battle. If you don't know what works and what doesn't, you're essentially fighting a losing battle. This is where SuperX comes. It's a Chrome extension that gives you hidden analytics and smart data about your X account, all without leaving the platform.
SuperX can show you which tweets got the most attention, what times work best for engagement, and how your follower count is changing over time. You can even peek at other profiles to see their top tweets and stats. This way, you're not just posting blindly, but actually understanding what resonates with your audience.
Content Creation
Screenstudio
Screen Studio takes your screen recordings to a whole new level. It's a Mac app that automatically makes your videos look polished and professional, without you having to do any extra work.
The real magic of Screen Studio is how it handles all the little details that make a video pop. When you're recording, it automatically zooms in on your cursor movements, smooths out any jerky motions, and even increases the cursor size to make it easier to follow. Say you're showing off a new design or component - Screen Studio will zoom in on the important parts, add smooth transitions, and make your cursor glide across the screen like butter. This way, your viewers stay engaged and the whole production looks professional.
But it's not just about the recording. Screen Studio gives you easy editing tools like zooms, trim clips, and even speed up parts of your video, all without needing a separate app. It's perfect for creating product demos, tutorials, or social media content that actually grabs attention.
Rotato App
Rotato takes your app demos and screenshots to a whole new dimension - literally. It's a Mac app that turns your flat designs into stunning 3D mockups, without you needing any 3D skills.
The real magic of Rotato is how it combines your 2D designs with 3D elements. Say you've got a screenshot or screen recording of your design - Rotato lets you place it on a 3D phone or laptop, add reflections, adjust the lighting, and even animate the device. You can tilt the screen, spin the whole thing around, or zoom in on specific features. It's perfect for creating eye-catching product demos, App Store screenshots, or social media content that actually makes people stop scrolling.
But here's where it gets really cool - Rotato plays nicely with other tools like Screen Studio. You can record a smooth, zoomed-in demo of your designs/templates using Screen Studio, then drop that video into Rotato to give it that extra polish. Add some 3D elements, animate the device, and suddenly your simple screen recording looks like it was made by a professional video team
Capcut
CapCut is a not a special video editing tool - its simple, very basic and its free. What makes CapCut shine for product videos is how easy it is to use. You don't need to spend hours learning complex software - just drag in your screen recordings or product shots, and you're off to the races. You can quickly cut between different screens, add text to highlight key points, and even throw in some subtle transitions to keep things flowing smoothly.
CapCut isn't going to replace high-end video editing software for complex projects. But for most designers and product teams, it hits that sweet spot of being powerful enough to create polished content, while still being simple enough that you're not wasting time fighting with the interface. You can focus on showing off your product, not learning video editing
E-commerce
Lemonsqueezy
Lemonsqueezy is a go-to platform for digital creators selling online, offering some of the lowest rates around. It handles all the tax and legal stuff as a merchant of record, saving you a big headache. Plus, it comes packed with useful features like abandoned cart recovery, affiliate marketing tools, easy discounts, and PayPal support.
What sets Lemonsqueezy apart is how it combines low costs with powerful tools, all ready to use from the get-go. This means you can focus on creating great products while Lemonsqueezy takes care of the selling part, from payments to promotional tools.
Parity Pricing
ParityDeals is a useful tool for online sellers looking to expand their global reach. It automatically adjusts your prices based on the customer's location, helping you charge what's appropriate for different markets without manual calculations.
It sounds counter intuitive but it really works - giving a discount to lower purchasing power countries actually increases your sales. I've tested this myself.
Beyond location-based pricing, ParityDeals offers features like time-based deals and holiday discounts. It integrates with popular platforms such as Lemon Squeezy, Stripe, and Gumroad
For those wanting a simpler option, we have our own parity discount component and holiday discount component for Framer
Libraries
Foundation/Starter Kits
Foundation and starter kits can seriously speed up your workflow. Instead of spending hours setting up basic color styles and text styles, you can start with a pre-built foundation and focus on the unique aspects of your project right away.
That's why I created our free Foundation Kit - a solid base of text and color styles that are already responsive, saving you time and headaches. You can choose from Light, Dark, or Dynamic themes (which adjust to the user's system preferences)
As your projects grow in complexity, having a robust content management system becomes increasingly important.
The best part? It's completely FREE!
Code Components Libraries
Custom code components can really take your Framer projects to the next level. Often as designers, you're limited to creating static pngs. Certain types of animations and interactions feel way outside your circle of competence. Code component libraries like our own library is a staple in my workflow. There are other code libraries out there as well but I'm slightly biased of course. Code libraries will allow you to work outside the limitations of Framer. Everything from forms, CMS upgrades to interactions.
UI Kits
UI kits can be a real time-saver when you're designing in Framer. They give you a head start with pre-built components and styles, letting you focus on the unique aspects of your project instead of recreating common elements from scratch.
If you've been designing long enough, you eventually come to the realisation that most websites are just remixes of 10-20 types of sections that are modified to find the brand. The real challenge is not the layout itself but the unique experience and your ability to tell a story. If you can automate the boring layouts and components, you can spend more time on the things that really matter - your creative process. That's why we've created the SegmentUI UI Kit for Framer. This kit is packed with a variety of components and styles that you can easily customize to fit your project's needs. From basic elements like buttons and forms to more complex components, layouts and CMS collections
Inspiration Sites
Even the most creative designers sometimes need a spark of inspiration. These are my go to site:
Landingbook for everything websites
Mobbins for everything apps
Appinspo for niche UI elements
My process is very simple:
Write down the objectives of the project
Create a mood board from a bunch of inspiration sites
Create a few initial directions
Pick a direction I like and finish the project
Wrapping Up
Being a designer in todays world is more than creating pretty pixels. You need to be efficient, good at marketing and optimise your workflow to create value for your end user and clients. In the end the more value you can provide per unit time, the more you get compensated. Investing in these tools shouldn't be looked as expenses. Rather, they are investment into yourself that will give back massive return.
Remember, the key to maximizing your productivity as a designer is finding the right combination of tools that work for your specific workflow. Don't be afraid to experiment with different tools and see what fits best with your design style and project needs. Make it a habit to explore new tools regularly and be open to adding them into your workflow.
Happy designing, and may the design gods be with you.
